Magnet
The Indianapolis Public Schools offers the broadest range of magnet choices and innovative option programs anywhere in Indiana. IPS offers high-quality programs focusing on math, science, environmental studies, Montessori, multiple intelligences, inquiry, performing arts, medical sciences, Spanish immersion and vocational careers. Plus, IPS is the only Indiana school district to offer the rigorous International Baccalaureate Programme to students in Grades K-12.
Last fall, IPS introduced the H.L. Harshman Magnet Middle School for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and World Languages. This Grade 7-8 school provides a rigorous curriculum and courses you can't find anywhere else in the Indianapolis area at the middle school level, such as Russian. In July 2011, Harshman was touted by the Indiana Department of Education as one of the best performing middle schools in the state. This fall, IPS unveils a Reggio-Emilia-inspired program at William A. Bell School 60. A collaboration of IPS and Butler University, this laboratory program uses problem solving and the arts as a form of self-expression. It is rooted in the Montessori philosophy.
IPS also offers our popular lineup of schools including the Centers for Inquiry, Key Learning Community, Shortridge Magnet High School for Law and Public Policy, Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School, and Broad Ripple Magnet High School for the Arts and Humanities. Many of these options offer students the opportunity for hands-on experience and college credits.
If you're looking for high-quality academic programs with rigor that will stretch your child's imagination and abilities while stimulating learning, look no farther than our IPS magnet and option programs. Best wishes for a successful school year.

Please take advantage of the opportunity to learn first hand about our programs by joining us at one or both of our Magnet Fairs in the fall. Magnet Mania 2011 is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the Magnet Roundup is Saturday, November 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Both fairs will take place in the Arsenal Technical High School cafeteria, giving parents the opportunity to meet and speak with staff from magnet schools and ask questions in a fun and festive atmosphere. Parents may submit magnet applications and if needed, complete enrollment forms at the fairs.
In choosing a magnet, the child’s interests and special talents, along with the specialized curriculum and program requirements should all be considered.
In order to have the best chance of getting into your program of choice parents must sub- mit the application on time. The 2011 application deadline is Thursday, December 15th, 2011. It is important to note that sibling and other priority preferences do not apply after the December 15th deadline date.
Please let us know how we can assist you with your magnet selection. Best regards,
